I have been referred for a test- when can I expect to get the results?

The time may vary- but the following can be used as a guide:

  • Gastroscopy: Result should be available the same day
  • Ultrasound scan/ X-ray/ Dexa scans: Result should be available within 10 days
  • Biopsies: 4 to 6 weeks
  • Blood & Urine Tests: 3 to 4 days
  • Stool Tests: 4 to 5 days
  • 24 hour BP monitoring: 2 days
  • Other tests: you will be advised by your clinician as to when the results should be available

How can I obtain the results of my tests?

Hospital Requested Tests

Patients should phone a consultant's secretary or the department responsible for their test results (if the test was requested by a hospital based clinician). This way because results are not transferred to us immediately. Please be aware that sometimes hospital requested results might not be available until your follow up appointment.
